#5 Roch Routs Women's Hoops by 33

The Oswego State women’s basketball team was held to 29.3 percent shooting from the floor, while the University of Rochester had three players in double-digits and shot 52.5 percent from the floor en route to a 77-44 win over the Lakers in a non-conference matchup on Sunday, November 30 at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets an NCAA Division III “Sweet 16” participant last year, are ranked fifth in the latest Women’s Collegiate Basketball Association (WBCA)/USA Today NCAA Division III national poll and improve to 4-0, while the Lakers (2-2) dropped their second straight game.

Oswego’s only lead came in the game’s opening minutes, when sophomore Traci Bacon (Massena) hit the front end of a two-shot free throws before the Rochester answered with a 23-4 run to take a commandnig 23-5 lead with 9:29 remaining in the half. The Yellowjackets would finished the half with a 44-15 lead, shooting 53.1 percent (17-for-32) from the floor with five 3-pointers, while the Lakers were held to 21.7 percent shooting from the floor (5-for-23).

No player scored in double digits for Oswego, who were led by senior co-captain Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) with nine points. Live Blogging the Lakers

The Oswego State Lakers are moments away from their match-up in Wisconsin with St. Scholastica. Like any good blogger, I'm following the action from my parents basement. The WNYO studio was on lockdown over Thanksdiving break preventing us from broadcasting the games. Today's game is being broadcast on 560 The FAN Duluth/Superior.

1ST PERIOD

*Chris Hyk is starting in net again.

*The Lakers have had a few good possessions as the Saints were forced to stay on the ice for a couple of long shifts.

*The FAN 560 takes commercial breaks during the period, but I don't think the officials stop the game for them. I hear last night's OT winner for the Saints happened while the station was in a break...doh!

*Less than six minutes to play and still no score. No penalties either, this is a very quick period.

*Chamberlain, Whitehead and McLaughlin are together on a line for the second straight night.

*St. Scholastica just hit the post on a great scoring chance as we near intermission.

*That'll do it for the first twenty minutes, no score from the Cornerstone Community Center. Lakers outshoot the Saints 6-5 and neither team commits a penalty.

2ND PERIOD

*Reisweber takes a loose puck on the right side of the neutral zone, brings it in on the wing, angles out in front of the net and scores. He seems to have a knack for doing that in Wisconsin. 1-0 Lakers 4:15 into the period.

*Jeff Gagnon quickly tied it at 1-1 with a PPG for the Saints.

*Joe Hall rips one past Steve Bounds...2-1 Lakers and that's three goals in as many minutes.

*Make it four markers in five minutes as Trevor Geiger beats Hyk, 2-2.

*Rich Zalewski takes the ice for the Lakers and Trevor Geiger immediately scores again. Coincidence? 3-2 Saints. (Note: The announcer said Zalewski was on the ice, but the box score doesn't show his name)

*Hank Van Boxmeer rips one past Bounds for a PPG, 3-3 with 7:02 left in the middle. Six goals have been scored in 8:43! Correction: Joe Hall is credited with a redirect goal, his second marker of the afternoon.

*SCOOOORE! Tyler Lyon with a blue line blast giving the Lakers a 4-3 lead with less than four minutes remaining in the second. Correction: Matt Whitehead is credited with a redirected goal.

*This is getting to be ridiculous. St. Scholastica ties it as the puck is dragged in by an Oswego defender. 4-4.

*Saints going on a PP as Van Boxmeer is whistled for holding with just over a minute left.

*PPG for the Saints. Nine goals this period. 5-4 St. Scholastica.

*That's all for the second. Nine goals in the final 14 minutes. I feel for the radio producer, "Captain." He was unable to get the goals edited in time for the intermission recap.

3RD PERIOD

*Lakers have out-shot the Saints 17-15. Five goals on only 15 shots for St. Scholastica!

*Oswego goes on the power play early in the third. Van Boxmeer is denied twice by Bounds. Lyon put a backhanded shot just high as the Lakers continue to apply the pressure on the PP.

*You have to wonder whether or not Paul Beckwith is in uniform tonight. Last night's box score showed Tyler Laws as the backup goalie for Oswego.

*Neither team able to capitalize on a PP chance this period. We're midway through the third, still 5-4 Saints.

*Lakers going on the PP as Whitehead is able to draw a hook on one of the Saints. Less than five minutes remaining.

*Saints kill Oswego's PP, even strength hockey with less than three minutes to play.

*Less than two minutes remain and the Lakers need a goal to force OT.

*Under a minute to go and Hyk has made two big saves as the Lakers cannot clear the puck.

*Oswego never gets the puck out of their own end in the final minute and lose 5-4.

Lakers Hold Off Green Knights: Magagna Gets 100th Career Point

In the inaugural St. Norbert Thanksgiving Holdiday Tournament, the sixth ranked Lakers defeated the third ranked St. Norbert Green Knights 4-3. The Lakers came into the Green Knights home arena (the Cornerstone Community Center) off a Jekyll and Hyde performance last weekend. But, the Lakers shook off the rust from the Geneseo game and got right down to business.

Derrell Levy slipped the puck past St. Norbert's Blake Bashor for the first goal of the game at 10:09 into the first (assist to Garren Reisweber). The Lakers quickly gave the Green Knights a shot to tie the game up in the middle of the period committing two penalties. But, the penalty kill unit and goaltender Chris Hyk held out long enough to get back to full strength. The first ended with a series of penalties for both teams, but ended with the Lakers clinging to a slim margin.

The Green Knights started off the second period on the powerplay after a Ryan Ellis penalty late in the first. The penalty carried over, but things got worse for the Lakers as six men ended up on the ice costing them yet another skater. Green Knight Nick Tabisz took advantage of the situation on the 5 on 3 and fired a shot past Hyk from the top of the left circle at 1:08. The Green Knights and the crowd at the Cornerstone got a quick boost of confidence off the stick of Tabisz. But, exactly a minute later Brad Dormiedy carried the puck into the offensive zone somehow eluding a defender and found Neil Musselwhite for a breakaway shorthanded goal. This goal would prove to be the game changer for the Lakers as Musselwhite's goal propelled a solid offensive outburst in the second. Senior forward Mark Lozzi scored at 14:56 and senior captain Peter Magagna scored the eventual game winner at 18:52. The goal for Magagna gave him his 100th career point as a Laker.

The Green Knights, however, didn't go down without a fight. A.J. Gale put the Green Knights on his back scoring two goals late in the third period cutting the Laker lead to one. The Lakers were clearly back on their heals with five minutes left in the game, but they stood up to the onslaught. Chris Hyk and the Laker defense stepped up in a big way and closed the door on the Green Knights ending their bid at a wild comeback.

The Lakers (7-2-1) will play St. Scholastica tomorrow at 4:30. After tomorrow nights game the Lakers will make the trek up north to face Plattsburgh (#1) and Potsdam.

Asleep at the Helm: Lakers Lose to Geneseo 4-2

The Ice Knights came into the Campus Center Ice Arena Saturday night after being dealt a tie to Cortland State. On the other hand the Lakers routed Brockport 11-3. Perhaps the offense used up all of its firepower, because it was not seen again tonight. The Ice Knights played a suffocating defense smothering the Lakers offensive attack. In net for the Lakers was senior Chris Hyk, and things couldn't have got off to a rockier start. Dan Brown scored on a wrap around just 22 seconds into the contest giving the Ice Knights the quick 1-0 lead. The Ice Knights were swarming to the puck the entire night, and were clearly knocking the Lakers out of their game.

Laker Eric Selleck scored his 8th goal of the season to knot it up at 6:37 in the first. The Lakers would then surrender another goal at 13:39 by Michael Forgione who beat Hyk who tried to make a sprawling save. It was clear that the Lakers came out flat in the first, and the Laker defense was asleep allowing the Ice Knights to gain the advantage.

At the start of the second period coach Ed Gosek made the switch in net going to the freshman Paul Beckwith. The freshman came into the game riding a four game winning streak. But, the switch may have come to late. The Ice Knights for a majority of the second period dumped the puck into their offensive zone and chased it down. This effectively throw the Lakers out of the game, and helped kill the clock.

In the third period Laker defenseman Rich Zalewksi was hit with a interference penalty at 3:38. Ice Knight Clint Olson would capitalize on this advantage at 5:44 netting a powerplay goal pushing Geneseo out to a 3-1 lead. The Lakers offense was completely thrown off by the Ice Knights defense and didn't allow many pucks to get past them and on net. But, there was a ray of hope at 16:49 when Tyler Lyon rocketed a blue line shot past Geneseo's Cory Gershon to make it 3-2. The Lakers looked to feed of the energy of the arena after the goal, and they did. Brendan McLaughlin had the best opportunity at 19:24 when he was left all alone in the farside circle, but missed on a open point blank shot. The Lakers made a mad dash to the finish, and showed a lot of heart in the last 2 minutes. But, it came a little too late as the Ice Knights put in an empty netter with 2 seconds left to end the game.

Ithaca held the double-digit advantage for most of the second half, leading by as many as 19 points on two occasions, before the Lakers started chipping away at the lead, closing the margin to five points (74-69) with 1:09 remaining on a three-pointer by Ryan. The Bombers iced the win on a pair of free throws with less than 40 seconds to play.

Reuter Scores 1,000th Point, Men's Hoops Wins

Oswego State men’s basketball senior co-captains Tommy Downing (Staten Island/Curtis) and Kyle Reuter (Hannibal) each registered game-highs of 22 points, with Reuter surpassing the 1,000-career point mark, in leading the Lakers to their second victory scoring 100 points or more in a 104--79 triumph over Cazenovia College in non-league action on Wednesday, November 19 at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Both Downing and Reuter came into the 2008-09 season with opportunities to reach the milestone marker. Reuter, who connected on nine of 17 shots from the field, including three of six 3-pointers, in 31 minutes of action, becomes the 13th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club, reaching the mark with a layup 7:33 into the second half to give the Lakers a 68-53 lead. Reuter now has 1,004 points in 89 games played.

Downing, who is next on the list to join the 1,000-point club (he currently has 896 points), shot eight of 14 from the floor and made all six free-throw attempts (all in the second half) in 25 minutes played. He also tallied game highs for assists (nine) and blocked shots (three).

Downing and Reuter were four of five starters to score in double digits for Oswego. Freshman Chad Burridge (Hannibal), who was named Oswego State Athlete of the Week for his game-high performance in his collegiate debut last week, posted his first “double-double” with 18 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 7-for-12 from the field. Junior Stanley Francois (Valley Cottage) added 16 points, hitting six of seven free throws, to go with four rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Cazenovia ,who held the lead on four occasions in the opening half, the last being a 39-37 advantage with 4:03 remaining before the Lakers went on a 9-2 run to close out the period, also had four players in double digits. Senior Eric Sauer led the Wildcats (0-2) with 20 points, hitting 10 of 17 from the floor.

Oswego travels downstate to play in its first tournament of the season at the Old Westbury Panther Classic, taking on Husson University in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. The third-place and championship games are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.

Men's Hockey Stays Put in New USCHO Poll

USCHO.com released their weekly division III men's hockey poll today with Oswego State remaining the third-ranked team in the nation. The Lakers (5-1-1) lost 28 voter points from a week ago after a 5-5 tie with winless Morrisville (0-7-1) on Friday, but that wasn't enough to drop them in the poll.

Neither St. Norbert nor Plattsburgh saw any change in their number of first place votes, voter points, or rankings. The defending national champion Green Knights (7-0-0) remain at the top spot after a pair of NCHA victories over #6 Stevens Point (6-1-0), now ranked seventh, and #12 Eau Claire (6-1-0), now ranked ninth. Defending SUNYAC champion Plattsburgh (6-0-0) is still the bride's maid after a pair of conference road wins in Brockport (3-2-1) and Geneseo (6-3-0).

Women's Hockey Lets Lead Slip in Loss

The Oswego State women’s hockey team went into the third period with a one-goal advantage, but could not hold on to the lead as Neumann College scored three goals in a seven-minute span en-route to a 4-3 win over the Lakers in game two of an ECAC Women’s West weekend series at the Campus Center Ice Arena.

Oswego (3-3-0, 1-3-0 ECAC West) scored the game’s first goal as freshman forward Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, ONT) took set-up passes from junior Jenna Kirkwood (Chilliwack, BC) and sophomore Krista Pattemore (Athens, ONT) after the Knights won the faceoff, putting a shot past goalkeeper Mel Brunet 1:08 into the contest.

Neumann (2-2-0, 2-2-0 ECAC West) tied the contest on the power play at 10:56 with a goal from sophomore Carly Bondra. The Lakers retook the lead 40 seconds into the second period as junior Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville) scored on assists from sophomores Erica Shapey (Plainview) and Sarah Hannon (Lackawanna).

The lead would hold until the 4:43 mark of the third period, when Neuman would score three times in a seven-minute span. Freshman Khristine Acosta would tie the game with assists coming from seniors Tabatha Shurry and Carly Fitzsimmons. Schury would follow with the go-ahead goal at 7:39, followed by a power-play score at 11:35 from junior Holly Williams.

The Lakers cut the lead to a goal when junior Angie Friesen (Chilliwack, BC) scored on assists from freshman Kelly Collins (Fairport) and sophomore Emily Grippin (Ithaca) with 1:33 remaining in the period, three seconds after Oswego head coach Diane Dillon called a timeout. The Lakers tried to pull the goaltender for the extra attacker, but Neumann kept the puck in the zone for the final minute of play.

Neuman goalie Mel Brunet made 27 saves to earn the win, while Oswego sophomore Emi Williams (Anchorage, AK) stopped 29 shots on net.

Oswego takes to the road for a weekend series at Buffalo State College on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 21-22, before returning to the Campus Center Ice Arena for games against nationally-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology the following weekend (Dec. 5-6) to close out the semester.

Moreno was scheduled to be a student manager this season on the Laker men’s basketball team.

Stunned: Lakers Skate to 5-5 Tie With Winless Mo-ville

The Morrisville Mustangs came into Friday nights game as the last place team in the SUNYAC standings. But, they mustered up enough firepower and some great goaltending from Caylin Relkoff skate toe to toe with the 3rd ranked Lakers. The Laker defense for most of the game was disappointing to say the least, and allowed too many open shots on net. In addition the penalty kill team gave up two goals to the Mustangs.

At 19:59.8 in the third period, Ron Sgarbossa knotted the game up with a buzzer beating deflection from Evan Kernohan. The shot somehow found its way by a logjam in front of Laker goaltender Chris Hyk, and sneaked by him with .2 seconds left on the clock. This was a deflating blow for the Lakers as they clawed their way back to a late third period lead behind a Brendan McLaughlin powerplay goal. Everyone in attendance as well as the Laker players were stunned beyond disbelief at what unfolded.

Captain Peter Magagna and coach Ed Gosek had a few minutes to rally the "troops" before the sudden death overtime. The Lakers didn't have much time to recuperate, but they came out strong in the extra session. They dominated the Mustangs for a majority of the overtime keeping the puck in their zone. But, they failed to make anything happen.

In the closing minute of the overtime frame, Chris Hyk made an amazing glove save to keep the Mustangs from escaping with a win. The shot looked like it was destined to hit the back of the net, but Hyk saved the Lakers from an devestating overtime loss. The Lakers had numerous opportunities in the last 50 seconds of the game in their offensive zone, but failed to push it past Relkoff. When the buzzer sounded to the tune of a 5-5 tie, you could feel the Campus Center Ice Arena deflate.

After an impressive Western New York road swing last weekend, the Lakers failed to take care of business on their home ice. This loss can solely be attributed to a lackadaisical defense, which created too many openings for the Mustangs. In addition passing was an issue early ending any chance at leveling a steady offensive attack against Caylin Relkoff. The powerplay unit again failed to capitalize on their man advantages as well going 1-7 on the night.

The Lakers have a huge homestand coming up next weekend against Brockport and Geneseo. It is quite possible that the thought of those games loomed in the back of the Lakers minds. It is difficult to get up for games like these, and it became more apparent as the night went on that the Lakers had to pick up the pace to stay with Morrisville. After a undiscplined and sloppy second period of play the Lakers kicked it into another gear in the third period. The Lakers should look at the silver lining after this game, and that is they again showed a lot of heart down the stretch.

Lakers Ranked 3rd In New Poll

The USCHO.com Division III national poll came out with it's second edition of the new season today, placing the Oswego State Lakers 3rd in the country. The Lakers are trailing conference rival Plattsburgh (#2) and reigning national champion St. Norbert in the new poll. This jump from their previous ranking (#6) can be attributed to their victory over Elmira and their ability to go undefeated on a tough Western New York road trip. The Lakers, 5-1-0, will look to keep the winning streak alive this Friday when they take on Morrisville at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center Ice Arena.

The Lakers (3-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC West), who were looking to add on to their best start in its three-year varsity history, were outshot by the host Bears (2-3-0, 1-2-0 ECAC West), who are in their first season of varsity competition, in the opening two periods (13-11 and 12-6) before holding a 18-5 shots advantage in the third period, where they scored their lone goal of the contest on an unassisted goal from freshman defender Kathryn Sbrocchi at 11:31 of the period [sic].

The Bears were 2-for-6 on the power play, while killing off six Laker power-play opportunities.

Potsdam junior goalie Hillary Hitchman, who played for the Lakers in their first two seasons of varsity play, made 34 saves in earning the win for the Bears. Oswego junior goalie Erin Robson registered 27 saves in picking up the loss.

The Lakers return to the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.), Nov. 15-16, for a two-game conference series with Neumann College.

Lakers Tame Bengals

The Lakers, for the first 58:30 of Saturday night's game, were frustrated by the Buffalo State penalty kill and defense. The Bengals got goals from Cory Park and Joe Curry to give them a two-goal lead going into the third. Laker goaltender Paul Beckwith played a great game in net only allowing two goals, and held out long enough for the Lakers to comeback. The Lakers came storming back late in the third after being shutout by Bengal goaltender Zach Grasley. Tyler Lyon ripped a slap shot top shelf past Grasley to cut the lead in half for the Lakers. The Lakers then got a timely power play goal from Ryan Ellis on a 6-on-4 advantage off a one-timer to knot the game up at 2-2 and force overtime.

The Bengals received a five minute major penalty giving the Lakers a man advantage with three minutes left in the overtime. At 1:30, Chris Laganiere tipped in a centering pass from Matt Whitehead for the game winning goal. The Lakers capped off the wild comeback in convincing fashion vaulting them to a 5-1-0 record.

Women's Hockey Wins Castleton State Tournament

RUTLAND, VT - The Oswego State women’s hockey team defeated fellow ECAC West division opponent SUNY Potsdam, 2-1, to win the inaugural Rutland Herald Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament hosted by Castleton State College at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse. It was the first ever tournament triumph for the Lakers in the three-year varsity history of the program, all under current head coach Diane Dillon.

Both teams battled through a scoreless first period before Oswego (2-0-0) was able to break through for a pair of second period goals. Freshman Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, ONT/Nepean Wildcats) broke through for the first Laker goal off a Krista Pattemore (Athens, ONT/St. George’s Prep) assist one minute into the second period. Junior forward Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville, NY/National Sports Academy) scored the game winner 11 minutes later unassisted, corralling a loose puck to the right side of the goal and scored from a seemingly impossible angle nearly behind the net.

Potsdam (1-2-0) cut the lead in half in the third period, and had two very good opportunities to tie the score but Oswego sophomore goalie Emi Williams (Anchorage, AK/Anchorage Northstars) turned both away to preserve the win. Danielle Compagni scored the lone Bears goal from off assists from Courtney Laughlin and Brandi Atwell.

Williams stopped 21 shots in the win, while Potsdam goalie Hilary Hitchman made 25 saves in the loss. Bergeron and junior defense and co-captain Angie Friesen (Chilliwack, BC/Pacific Steelers) were Laker selections to the All-Tournament team.

Oswego and Potsdam will meet at this weekend at the Campus Center Ice Arena for a two-game series in the ECAC West opener for both teams. Both games, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. starts.

RUTLAND, VT - Oswego State raced out to a 2-0 lead through the first two periods and skated to a 4-1 win over Saint Michael’s College in the opening round of the Rutland Herald Invitational at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse.

The Lakers received single goals from four different players including 2007-08 leading scorer, Jessica Lister (Aurora, ONT) who also added a pair of assists, in earning the win and improving to 1-0-0 on the season. Captain Jenna Kirkwood (Chilliwack, BC) opened the scoring for Oswego notching her first goal of the season on the power-play 2:54 into the first period. Kirkwood scored from just outside the crease off a Angie Friesen (Chilliwack, BC) assist. Oswego made it 2-0 12:29 into the second period on a goal from Stephanie Esposito (Parish, NY), her first of the season, assisted by Lister and Erica Shapey (Plainview, NY).

Saint Michael’s cut the lead in half 5:24 into the third period as Desiree Biron scored on assists from Molly DiMasi and Kaleigh Ferrari. Biron beat a defender and stuffed the puck into the upper right corner of the net for her first of the season.

Oswego tacked on a pair of insurance goals to put the game out of reach as Lister and Krista Pattemore (Athens, ONT) each tallied after the 10-minute mark.

Redemption!

The Lakers pulled off their biggest win of the season by defeating the Elmira College Soaring Eagles, 6-4. There were six goals scored in the third period by both teams making for high octane entertainment for the fans in attendance.

The third and fourth lines for the Lakers stepped up in a big way picking up the dominant line of Ellis-McLaughlin-Whitehead, which put up seven points in the last two games. Senior forward Derrell Levy had one goal and an assist while linemate Mark Lozzi (pictured) netted two crucial goals and an assist in the dying minutes of the game. Lozzi's breakaway goal at 13:14 was the game winning goal for the Lakers. His shorthanded goal off a rebound at 15:34 was the capper on the evening putting the game out of reach. The Soaring Eagles didn't quit as Brendan Sanders scored at 16:41 bringning the game to it's final score of 6-4. But, the hole for the Soaring Eagles was to deep to dig out of as the Lakers prevailed.

The Lakers will look to continue their success next weekend when SUNYAC play returns. They will face the Fredonia State Blue Devils and a suprising Buffalo State Bengals team.

Note: Coach Ed Gosek picked up his 99th career victory tonight as well.

Men's Hockey v. Elmira: Players To Watch

For anybody coming to tonight's game here's some hints on players to watch for each team:

Oswego

#20 Erek Selleck: Selleck has been a force for the Lakers in their first 4 games this season as a freshman. Erek is a big power forward that can lay a hit and also put the puck in the net. He'll find himself in the right place at the right time a lot and will get a lot of chances in front of the night with the Magagna/Chamberlain line.

#13 Jared Anderson: Possibly the most underrated recruit in this year's Oswego recruiting class. Anderson has been rock solid on the back line for the Lakers. While he doesnt have the over-powering prescence of Van Boxmeer, the kid is an all-around solid defensive defensemen. Rarely will he get beat by a forward and almost everytime he'll force his man outside and tie him up around the net so he can't get a clear shot off.

#21 Brendan McLaughlin: Proud owner of the McSlapper, McLaughlin has been getting things going after a slow start in the USA game and the first Elmira game. McLaughlin, possessing some of the best hands and on the team will frustrate Elmira all day long from the point on the powerplay. McLaughlin can be lethal when he gets time and a clear shot from the top of the circle.

#11 Neil Musselwhite: Musselwhite will be the fastest skater on the ice bar none tonight. Neil had some chances against Elmira in their first meeting but got stoned on a breakaway by Casey Tuttle in the first period. Neil's line tallied their first points of the season last night and they are going to be integral to the Laker's success this season if they're going to be successful. I'd like to see Reisweber on his line tonight. Neil is also part of the Oswego PK who will have to step up big tonight after getting embarrased for 3 goals two weeks ago.

Elmira

#10 Darcy Vaillancourt: This kid can flat out play. He doesnt have overwhelming size, but he can skate like the wind as well as have tremendous hands and ice vision. Vaillancourt is quickly making in-roads in the EC line-up as he runs the point on the top EC PP unit. He's already scored two powerplay goals this season on absolute laser blasts from the top of the circle. Oswego needs to focus on him and make sure he's neutralized. Best way to do that, STAY OUT OF THE BOX!

#9 Dave McKenna: McKenna gets his chance to get back into the line-up and hopefully he makes up for lost time. McKenna needs to be the energy man on the Schrank/Masters line. He's got a great mix of speed, playmaking ability, and scoring touch. The Schrank/Masters pairing was completely ineffective against Plattsburgh so hopefully they'll come out fired up to prove they can be just as good as they were last year leading the team to the Frozen Four.

#25 Kyle Branson: The Senior captain is the leader of a relatively young defensive unit. Branson isnt going to light up the score board on any night, but he is going to be key in shutting down Oswego's top two lines as he's played against them all four years of his career. He also needs to be a mentor to his freshman defensive pair, Brock Sawyer who one day will probably be taking over Branson's role as a defensemen leader. Sawyer's talent is raw and needs some developing. Hopefully, the last week in practice they've made some improvements.

#13 Albert Mitchell:
Mitchell is the catalyst of the Soaring Eagles. While Oswego fans might laugh at his size, Mitchell will qucikly turn your head with his ability to outmaneuver guys that are nearly twice his size (exageration, but you know what i mean) and get shots off as well as set up plays for his linemates. Mitchell was one of the few bright spots for Elmira against Plattsburgh and usually always seems to play well against Oswego drawing penalties and frustrating the Laker defenders.
