Lakers Beat Curry

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team defeated Curry 4-1 on Sunday evening in the third-place game of the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego.

The Lakers got off to a quick start with unassisted goals by Peter Magagna and Brendan McLaughlin (pictured). Magagna scored off a turnover just 35 seconds into the period and McLaughlin's goal was a power-play goal at 2:17 of the opening period. The fast start was a good sign for Oswego State, as the Lakers improved their record to a perfect 7-0-0 on the season when they score the first goal.

Those two goals held up through the rest of the first period and the entire second period. McLaughlin scored again early in the third period to extend Oswego State's lead to 3-0 on assists from Magagna and Ryan Ellis.

The shutout bid by Laker goalie Ryan Scott was foiled in the last minute of the game when William Hoffman scored on a deflection for the Colonels with 57 seconds left in the game. The goal was assisted by Jeff Hazelwood and Ross Enmark.

Ellis added a late goal for Oswego State on an assist by McLaughlin. The lilne of Magagna, Ellis, and McLaughlin accounted for all four Laker goals and combined for seven points in the game. With a goal in each game of the Classic, Magagna was named to the all-tournament team.

Scott made 25 saves for the Lakers and Curry goaltender Zachary Cardella made 29 saves.

Oswego State is now 8-4-2 on the year and Curry is 7-5-1.

Next year's Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic will be held Jan. 2-3, 2009 and invited teams Babson and Skidmore from the ECAC East and Augsburg from the MIAC will join the host Lakers for the third annual event.

Ellis Out; Kitchen Gone

A source close to the club confirmed last night that Ryan Ellis is doubtful for this weekends tournament. Ellis is apparently sick and bedridden. He is currently the team leader in points (15) and goals (7).

Also, senior transfer Joel Kitchen (pictured) has left Oswego State. Kitchen tallied 21 goals and 28 assists in three seasons at Division I Canisius before transferring to Oswego for the Fall 2007 semester. He had one helper in four games with the Lakers and spent 21 minutes in the sin bin. Kitchen has stated he would like to play hockey in Australia.

Mags to return for Pathfinder

Oswego State junior forward Peter Magagna appears to be recovered from his leg injury. A source close to the club said today that Magagna will play in Saturday's first-round game.

The former Wellington Duke was injured Dec. 7 in a 7-1 win over Morrisville at the Campus Centre. He missed the Dec. 8 contest at Morrisville as the Lakers narrowly escaped with a 6-5 win.

Magagna is the second-leading scorer on the team with 11 points in 10 games. He is the Lakers leading set-up man with seven assists.

Before There was Jeanerette, There was Harry Caray

I think Harry Caray is the reason I liked Rick Jeanerette so much when I went to college in Buffalo Sabres' country. I grew up with the legendary, bumbling drunk broadcaster with the Chicago Cubs until he died in 1998. It was a sad day in the Morgan household when we learned of Caray's death on CBS's Winter Olympics coverage. It was fitting they would make the playoffs that year. Jeanerette is the exact same character, just in puck land. He filled the void that Caray's death created.

Mr. Clemens, meet Mr. Mitchell

409 pages later, The “Report to the Commissioner of Baseball of an independent investigation into the illegal use of steroids and other performance enhancing substances by players in Major League Baseball” is not just a really obnoxiously long title but a surprisingly interesting read. This report was touted as being the apocalypse of Major League Baseball and received with countdown timers on CNN like it was a presidential address.

Like many, when I went to read this monstrosity looking solely for names. I wanted to see who was being named and would be forced to face the shame of a nation. Oh yea, who is Kirk Radomski? Suddenly, this former club house attendant is making a name for himself by painting the Hester Prynne’s with their own scarlet letter. But I digress, famous names were what I was looking for and this report provided just that.

We expected to find Barry Bonds, Jason and Jeremy Giambi and Jose Canseco included in the report but no one could have been expected to see Roger Clemens implicated. The greatest living pitcher in the game, achieved such greatness by using performance enhancing drugs? Hang on, was just another part of the witch hunt that was the Mitchell Report? I mean, all they wanted was to find one big name to prove that this investigation was worthwhile, right?

What makes the implication of Roger Clemens so shocking and disheartening is the manner in which he is discussed. This was not just a he said she said, but specific examples are given.

McNamee injected Clemens approximately four times in the buttocks over a several-week period with needles that Clemens provided. Each incident took place in Clemens's apartment at the SkyDome. (Mitchell, pg 166)

The jig is up right? There is no way that The Rocket could get out of this one, exact places and instances are mentioned. Currently, Clemens has elected to deny all of these allegations. “…adamantly, vehemently, and whatever other adjectives can be used, denies that [I have] ever used steroids or ... improper substances…” (cnn.com) Many, including myself find this hard to believe when the players that were named ( Brian Roberts, Fernando Viña and Clemens friend, Andy Pettitte) are slowly admitting that they did use HGH or some other form of performance enhancing drug, giving the these allegations found in the Mitchell Report more and more credibility.

The verdict on Clemens, like many other is still out. Last week’s release of the Mitchell Report is only the beginning of what is going a long process of, hopefully one day, removing steroids and other performance enhancing drugs from the game of baseball. Only time will tell what happens next…

World Series Chew Toy?

The baseball from the final out of the 2007 World Series is at Jonathan Papelbon's home in Hattiesburg, Miss., according to the Hattiesburg American.

Well, part of it is.

The rest? You should ask the Boss.

If he could talk, he might say it was delicious. But the most he'll say is "woof."

"Boss," you see, is Jonathan Papelbon's dog. Boss likes to play with baseballs. And Boss found the baseball that Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek gave the closer after he struck out the Rockies' Seth Smith to clinch Boston's second World Series title in four years, the newspaper reported.

And Papelbon was left with a common excuse for not doing one's homework to explain what happened to a historic baseball artifact.

"My dog ate it," Papelbon told the newspaper. "He plays with baseballs like they are his toys. His name is Boss. He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces.

"I'll keep what's left of it," he told the paper.

After the 2004 World Series, the Red Sox and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz haggled over custody of the ball that produced the final out of the team's Series championship in 86 years. Both sides eventually decided to give the ball to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Men's Hockey Moves Up

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team moved up to the No. 14 ranking in the latest USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon and freshman Joe Hall was named as the SUNYAC Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 9. The Lakers moved from 15th to 14th in the national poll, and are ranked for the 83rd consecutive publishing of the USCHO.com poll, dating back to January 2003. Last week, Oswego State defeated new SUNYAC foe Morrisville 7-1 at the Campus Center Ice Arena and 6-5 at Morrisville's IcePlex.

In those two games, freshman left wing Joe Hall (pictured) scored a goal and an assist in each contest, recording four points in the weekend after tallying just one through his first nine games. He was named SUNYAC Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. Hall, a native of Schaumberg, Ill., played for the Wellington Dukes before attending Oswego State.

Men's Hockey Survives Morrisville

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team rallied from an early deficit and defeated Morrisville 6-5 on Saturday night at the IcePlex in Morrisville. The Lakers scored three power-play goals and six different players scored in the victory.

Oswego State fell behind 1-0 but tied the game on a power-play goal from C.J. Thompson, assisted by Tyler Lyon and Matt Whitehead. Morrisville answered that goal with a tally from Derek Matheson just 12 seconds after the Lakers tied the score, and the Mustangs carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

It didn't take long for the Lakers to tie the score, as Oswego State capitalized on another power-play chance with Joe Hall deflecting a point shot by Francois Gagnon past Morrisville goalie Brett Freese to knot the score at 2-2.

After a Morrisville player was issued a major penalty for elbowing, the Lakers recorded their third power-play goal of the game as Garren Reisweber deposited a loose puck at the edge of the crease. The Mustangs responded again as Keith Williams finished off a 2-on-0 rush to tie the game 3-3.

Oswego State's Chris Laganiere scored his first collegiate goal from a sharp angle late in the second period to give the Lakers a 4-3 lead and Oswego State never trailed again.

Early in the third, Josh Chamberlain scored to make it 5-3. After Morrisville scored again, to reduce the lead to one goal, Derrell Levy (pictured) scored his second of the season on an assist by Hall to make it 6-4. It proved to be the game-winning goal.

Morrisville scored a power-play goal with 1:38 left in the third period and the Mustangs were on the power play for the last 1:26 of the game, but Oswego State held on for the win.

The Lakers are now 7-3-2 on the year and 7-1-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. Morrisville fell to 4-12-0 and 0-9-0 in the SUNYAC.

Oswego State returns to action on Dec. 29 at the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic, when the Lakers host Amherst. The first semifinal on Dec. 29 pits St. Norbert against Curry.

Men's Hockey Mauls Morrisville

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team scored six straight goals over the last 37 minutes and defeated Morrisville 7-1 at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego on Friday night.

Junior forward Brendan McLaughlin had three assists for Oswego State, giving him 100 points for his career. McLaughlin, from Brampton, Ontario, has 44 goals and 56 assists in 65 games and is the 47th player in Oswego State men's ice hockey history to reach the 100-point milestone.

Garren Reisweber opened the scoring for the Lakers in the first period, taking a pass from Tony DiNunzio and sliding the puck past Morrisville goalie Caylin Relkoff for the only goal of the opening period.

Morrisville got on the board and tied the game early in the second period as Dave Schultz finished off a goalmouth scramble with assists going to Andrew Alarie and Chris Wallin. Reisweber added his second goal of the night just 1:06 after Morrisville tied it and the Lakers never looked back.

The Lakers responded with a run of their own and cut the Cardinal lead down to a single possession in the final minute. Jabbi's layup with 35 seconds left pulled Oswego State to within one point at 82-81. The Lakers fouled Plattsburgh's Anthony Williams, who made one of two free throws. Oswego State had a shot to tie the game with three seconds left but it didn't go and three free throws by the Cardinals in the closing seconds accounted for the final score.

The Oswego State women's basketball team hosts Clarkson (2-4) tomorrow night at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. KJ Krasco was hired at Clarkson after two seasons as an assistant with cross-town rival St. Lawrence. The Knights are led by the play of their back court as 10 of their 13 players are listed as guards, including Thomas (9.3 PPG). The top scorer for Oswego State is also a back court player, senior guard Sam Driscoll (12.6 PPG).

Clarkson's roster features two former Central New York high school standouts. Freshman Lauren Pluchino spent last season in the Liverpool Warriors' back court. Sophomore Michelle Reddinger is a former front court force for C.W. Baker.

Day 2 Loopty Loo?

Ok
, day two has just about ended in Nashville and one major deal has gone down. A preliminary agreement has been made that would send four time all-star 3rd Basemen Miguel Cabrera and 2003 rookie of the year pitcher Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers for catcher Mike Rabelo, outfielder Cameron Maybin and pitchers Andrew Miller, Eulogio De La Cruz, Burke Badenhop and Dallas Trahern.

Umm...look at the line up and rotation for the Tigers now.

Curtis Granderson
Placido Polanco
Gary Sheffield
Magglio Ordonez
Miguel Cabrera
Edgar Renteria
Carlos Guillen
Pudge Rodriguez
Jacque Jones

Their pitching rotation isn't that bad either: Justin Verlander, Nate Robertson, Jeremy Bonderman, Kenny Rogers and Dontrelle Willis.

Their current lineup looks just as strong as last years Red Sox lineup. Speaking of the Sox...The Sox and Twins are hammering out the particulars of the Johan Santana deal. Jon Lester, Coco Crisp and two other minor leaguers are reportedly part of the package for the former Cy Young winner.

The Mets are sitting on their hands currently, no one is biting at anything they put on the table.

The Yankees seem to be out of the Santana talks. Expect them to show interest in Erik Bedard or Oaklands Dan Harren.

Anything else that is going to happen will go down either tonight or tomorrow. Winter meetings end Wednesday.

Don't screw this up.

John Maine Likes the Ladies... Clothes That is

Has Oscar De La Hoya started a trend?

At the opening of Touch nightclub Thursday night, Mets pitcher John Maine followed an attractive young woman into the ladies' bathroom.

He even went into the stall with her, but she wasn't prepared for what came next.

"He asked her if he could try on the little black dress she was wearing," laughs our snitch.

Unfortunately for the Maine Man, the lady declined.

Lakers continue to fall in the polls

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team fell to bottom of the latest USCHO top 15 division III poll. The Lakers (5-3-2) went 1-0-1 over the weekend homestand against Buffalo State and Fredonia. They are now tied with New England College (4-0-1) for the #14 ranking. The Lakers will host the Pilgrims on Jan. 5 at the Campus Center.

Elmira tops this week's poll, rising from the #4 spot. The Soaring Eagles are 7-0-1, their only tie was at home against Oswego State on Oct. 27. They defeated #6 Manhatanville (7-2-1) 4-3 on the road Saturday. SUNYAC leader Plattsbugh (11-1-0) climbed two spots and is tied with the Eagles for #1. They're lone loss was at Elmira on Nov. 17. The Cardinals host Oswego State on Jan. 25. They defeated the Lakers 4-2 at the Campus Center on Nov. 2.

2007 Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic participant St. Norbert (7-1-1) rose two spots to #3. The Green Knights received two first-place votes. They will open the second annual tournament at the Campus Center against Curry Dec. 29. The Lakers will face Amherst in the nightcap. The winners of those games will square off Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.

Wisconsin-River Falls fell from #1 to #4 this week. The Falcons were shutout 5-0 at St. Thomas on Nov. 27 before winning a pair of home games over the weekend. River Falls is 1-1-2 this year when playing away from Hunt Arena. They still managed to hold onto a number one ranking in this week's poll. Hobart fell from #2 to #9 after losing two straight on the road. The Statesmen lost at #6 Manhatanville Friday before falling at Utica Saturday. Hobart defeated the Lakers 5-2 on Nov. 17.

Ever touch a hot stove?

So, what happens when you place all of the Major League Baseball general managers in the same building for three days? What you get my friends are what as known as the winter meetings. During these next few days (Dec 3-5) plenty of high stakes wheeling and dealing will take place to settle any off season needs that your team might be in need of. Looking for a pitcher? Chances are that you can find someone who would be willing to help you out...for the right price.

At the end of day one there have only been two transactions. The Washington Nationals acquire Elijah Dukes from the Tampa Bay (Devil-less) Rays for minor leaguer Glenn Gibson. Also the Chicago White Sox swapped minor league first baseman Chris Carter for D-backs outfielder Carlos Quentin. Quentin was injury plagued for the majority of the 2007 season and has a batting avg of .230 in two limited years of playing time. Gibson is considered to be one of the top 10 Chi-Sox prospects.

Other notes: No movement yet on the Johan Santana front. Many, including myself believe Santana will be traded by the end of the day tomorrow, the Red Sox and Yankees are considered to be front runners in this sweepstakes. The Mets are exploring what it would take to land Oakland right hander Dan Haren or Baltimore Orioles strikeout machine Erik Bedard.

More tomorrow....

Cooking with Bill Belichick

Props to Colin Clerkin for sending me this. Apparently Bill Belichick did some cooking shows when he was head coach of the Cleveland Browns. It is glimpse into his coaching genious as he puts peanut butter on both pieces of bread to avoid jelly leakage through the bread. MIND BOGGLING! No wonder he is the mad scientist he is. However it might all be too good to be true, as it is unclear though if he acquired his cooking techinques from videotaped recordings of Emeril LaGasse.

Laker ladies lose at Neumann

The Oswego State Lakers women's ice hockey team lost 4-3 to Neumann Saturday night at the Ice Works Arena in Aston, Pa. The Lakers led on three separate occasions despite being outshot 51-24. Neumann also spent less time in the penalty box, committing only two infractions the entire game. Sophomore goalie Hilary Hitchman stopped 47 shots in the losing effort.

Sophomore Mackenzie May (Syracuse) scored her first two goals of the season. The first marker put the Lakers up 2-1 in the sixth minute of the second period. The Knights tied it up just over a minute later off a goal from Kristin Gauthier. May answered back just 26 seconds later on the power play with her second tally to put the Lakers ahead 3-2.

The Knights would tie the game at 3-3 midway through the second period on Janelle Marier's first goal of the season. Robyn Armstrong then scored the game-winner in the seventh minute of the third period. It was the sophomore defenseman's team-leading third goal of the season.

Freshman Emily Grippin recorded her second collegiate goal in the game's 16th minute on the shorthand to give the Lakers their first lead at 1-0. The win snapped the Knights five-game winless streak while stretching Oswego State's to six. Overall, the Lakers are 2-5-1 on the season, 0-5-0 in ECAC West play. They'll play at Neumann once again on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Scott Pulled Early; Lakers-Devils Skate to 3-3 Tie

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State men's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie Saturday night with Fredonia. The Blue Devils lit the lamp twice early in the first period. That prompted Laker coach Ed Gosek to hand the netminding duties of senior All-American Ryan Scott to junior Chris Hyk.

Hyk kept Fredonia off the board for the remainider of the first, allowing the Lakers to even the score. Co-captain C.J. Thompson found the twine to start the Lakers' scoring in the 10th minute.

Minutes later, the Blue Devils were called for a delay of game resulting in a penalty shot for Oswego State. Gosek tabbed Ryan Ellis to take the shot. He backhanded the puck past sophomore backstop Kevin Amborski to tie the game at 2-2. The goal was Ellis' 100th point as a Laker, he's the 46th player to achieve that milestone at Oswego State.

The second period saw no scoring, but Junior All-American Brendan McLaughlin was hit with a 10-minute misconduct penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty was a result of a post-whistle altercation with Devil blue-liner Andrew Babiarz in the period's fourth minute.

Fredonia took the lead again with 8:34 left to play in the third period. Junior pivot Richard Boyce came barreling into the net for a rebound shot, putting the puck across the goal line just ahead of him.

The Devils remained in the lead until Francois Gagnon found the net for the second time in as many nights. The French-Canadian defenseman had made a key glove stop to keep the puck in the attack just seconds before putting it between the pipes. Gagnon had also tied up the previous meeting between the two teams late in their SUNYAC tournament game last season.

The overtime saw only two shots on net, both from the Lakers as each side came away with a point in the conference standings. Conference leader Plattsburgh distanced their lead over the Lakers with a 5-4 come-from-behind overtime victory over Geneseo.

Peter Magagna did not dress for the Lakers tonight. Listen to the post-game audio with Coach Gosek in the video box to find out why.

Joe Paterno's Salary Released

Joe Paterno's long-secretive salary was revealed Thursday. The Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System revealed that Paterno earns $512,664 a year. Pennsylvania paper The Patriot-News had sought the coach's compensation information for upwards of five years. The state supreme court rules last week that Paterno's salary is a matter of public record because he participates in the state's retirement system.

Like many division 1A head football coaches, Paterno's base salary pales in comparison to his overall income. The coach is paid for his radio show and has a contract with Nike. Still, Paterno's base salary is lower than many of his counterparts. Last year, USA Today reported that more than 40 coaches earned more than a million dollars a year.

Milledge for Scheider and Church

More details are being made available in regards to this puzzling trade between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. Fox Sports, Ken Rosenthal is not confirming that this deal has actually taken place. Kudos to Mike and the Mad Dog for being the first to break this.

But now, seriously. Why on in the world would the Mets even entertain this offer? Sending their one trading chip away three days prior to the winter meetings? This really doesn't make any sense.

Oh, Lastings, we hardly knew thee.

Problematic as he might have been, Lastings Milledge showed tremendous upside. In just two short years with the Mets, he raised his average from .241 in 2006 to .272 at the end of the 2007 season. Many believed Lastings would have had a much higher trade value that what the Mets got in return.

This trade would now place Schneider as the regular catcher, bumping newly acquired Johnny Estrada to playing backup with current Mets catcher Ramon Castro. Estrada was acquired in exchange for troubled reliever Guillermo Mota. Church is a left-handed bat that could play right field...occasionally, the best option currently in right is to platoon Endy Chavez and Carlos Gomez. So again, I ask why did this trade happen?

It may not be obvious to any of us right now, but one would only hope that Mets GM Omar Minaya has something else up his sleeve.

One could only hope...

Oh god...

WFAN just broke news a few min ago that NY Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge has been traded to the Washington Nationals for LF Ryan Church and C Brian Schneidier.

Ummm....what?

Ill have more information as it becomes available.

The Oswego State men's basketball team had five players score in double figures including a team-high 17 points from Tommy Downing in a 96-67 win over Cazenovia on Monday night.

The Lakers used a 13-0 run to start the second half to take a commanding 22-point lead and never looked back. Mahamoud Jabbi scored 16 points for Oswego State and Dom White (pictured) added 14 for the Lakers. Kyle Reuter and Marshall Jones scored 10 points each. White also had 11 rebounds.

Yanks and Twins Talk Santana

The New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins have entered into preliminary trade talks involving Johan Santana. The Mets, Red Sox, and Dodgers are also believed to be interested in Santana and his two Cy Youngs, 3.22 career ERA, and 93-44 career record. Santana is eligible to become a free agent after next season and the Twins have been unsuccessful in attempting to resign him. Santana became disgruntled with the Twins organization after they traded Luis Castillo to the Mets in July for a couple of prospects.

If the Yankees want to have a shot at Santana, you have to think they'll have to dip into their talented pitching prospect pool. The Yankees have said that the only untouchable is Joba Chamberalin, meaning Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes could be had. The Twins will also be looking to fill the void at 2nd created after the Castillo trade and the gaping hole left by All-Star center fielder Tori Hunter who left town for LA. Second basemen Robinson Cano and center fielder Melky Cabrera will certainly be mentioned by the Twins. It's likely the Yankees will have to give up at least two of those four and probably more.

After much speculation that the Yankees would enter a bit of a rebuilding period and would part with A-Rod and either Mariano Rivera or Jorge Posada, that does not seem to be the case. All three will likely be back in pinstripes again next season and the Yankees are back to their old tricks; that is going after expensive veterans and trading away their younger prospects to build a team to win now. I was looking forward to a time when the Evil Empire would be a little less evil, but it appears that time is far off indeed.

Lakers Return to Action Tonight

The Oswego State men's basketball team returns from break with a road game against Cazenovia. The Lakers are 2-0 on the year after winning the Max Ziel Tip-Off Classic.

Senior guard Nick Perioli has returned strong from last season's knee injury and has played all 80 minutes. He is averaging 20.5 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. He also has six steals.

Last November, the Lakers didn't need Perioli's help to score a 114-60 won over the Wildcats. Five Lakers scored 13 or more points as Oswego State out-rebounded Cazenovia 57-28.

In 2005, the Lakers beat the Wildcats 95-66. That marked the last time these two teams had squared off at Cazenovia until tonight. Game time is set for 8 p.m. at the Stephen Schneeweiss Athletic Center.

Jinx! Clarkson's 20-game home unbeaten streak snapped

WNYOsports.com made their Cheel Arena debut Friday night, a 4-1 loss for the host Clarkson Golden knights. #10 St. Cloud State scored four goals on just 13 shots.

Sophomore goalie Jase Weslowsky (pictured) stopped 32 shots and improved upon his already-stellar .936 save percentage and 1.72 GAA (I'm not doing the math to see where he's at now!).

The Huskies were paced by two goals from Ryan Lasch, who now has 10 markers on the season. Lasch extended his streaks of games with a goal and multiple points to six, and games with at least one point to seven. Don't expect his name to drop off the INCH Hobey trackler anytime soon.

Garrett Roe also netted his ninth tally to stay within reach of his teammate for the distinction of the nation's leading scorer. Clarkson blue-liner Bryan Rufenach got his first collegiate goal late in the third to ruin Weslosky's shutout bid. The Huskies added an empty netter in the final minute for the final score.

French Fries You Thought Were at the Bottom of the Bag, But When You Reached in There Was Nothing...and You Were Quite Pissed About It

Got to meet Clarkson coach George Roll after the game. He recently joined an elite club of coaches with his 200th career victory. He won 119 of those games in his seven years as coach of the Oswego State Lakers.

Andy Petrus was one of the linemen tonight. He is the man who whistled Oswego State for a penalty in the 2006 SUNYAC final against Plattsburgh after a bagel was tossed onto the ice in the third period.

Try The Cheel, It's Delicious

I will soon make my way to Potsdam, NY (Oswego isn't quite cold enough). Tonight, I will see my first D-1 hockey game as Clarkson hosts St. Cloud, a battle of two top 10 teams. The Golden Knights play in Cheel Arena. I'm told that Cheel was the prototype for the Campus Center and many other college hockey rinks. Take a look:

Jets Demand an End to Embarrassment of Female Fans

Calling harassment of female fans at the now infamous Gate D spiral "outrageous" and "unacceptable," the Jets are demanding that Giants Stadium security put an end to what has become an unruly halftime tradition.

The Jets were responding to a New York Times story detailing the antics during halftime at their games this season in which fans reportedly line the circular Gate D ramp, shouting at passing women to expose their breasts.

Both Jets officials and fans said they were stunned to learn of the behavior. Some fans said they were even more shocked that they had been in the dark about it until Tuesday.

"I've never even heard it mentioned," said Joseph Catalano, a season ticket holder from Manhasset. "If that story never appeared, never in a million years would I have known that this happens."

Said Bob Muhlenforth of Ronkonkoma, another season ticket holder: "The thing that surprised me most is that I never heard about it."

The Times reported the halftime rowdiness Tuesday. Hundreds of fans reportedly line the circular ramp at Gate D that leads from the ground to the upper levels of the stadium to harass women with chants and shout at them to flash their breasts. Some do and, according to the report, the ones who don't are sometimes pelted with beer bottles and even spit on.

The New Jersey Sports and Exhibition Authority is in charge of security at Jets and Giants games. Calls to the authority and to the Meadowlands were not returned Tuesday.

Matt Higgins, the Jets senior vice president of business operations, released a statement saying authority officials have told the team they will fix the problem.

"We have spoken with NJSEA officials and demanded that they take steps immediately to ensure that it does not happen again," the statement said. "The NJSEA, the operator of the facility, has assured us that they will address this conduct at all Meadowlands events. We will not allow a small minority of people to ruin the experience for our fans and will be monitoring the situation."

Higgins also said that the Jets were unaware of the behavior.

The story said that close to 10 security guards were standing in the area watching the event Sunday, and one of the guards said they were not permitted to do anything to stop the abuse because of free speech laws.

"The problem is, you got to watch four or five hundred people sometimes in one particular spiral," Patrick C. Aramini, the NJSEA's vice president for security, parking and traffic for the Meadowlands Sports Complex, told the Times. "What do we do, arrest everybody that starts chanting?"

Rowdiness at sporting events is nothing new, but some say the attitude of fans who attend Jets games has changed in recent years. Michael Stallone, a season-ticket holder, said the demographic and focus of the crowd has shifted.

"It's definitely a younger crowd, a rowdier crowd, with people who don't give a damn about the game," Stallone said. "They're there more for an event than to support the team. They're there just to have a good time, have a few beers, and cause mischief."
