Live Blogging the Lakers

The Oswego State Lakers are moments away from their match-up in Wisconsin with St. Scholastica. Like any good blogger, I'm following the action from my parents basement. The WNYO studio was on lockdown over Thanksdiving break preventing us from broadcasting the games. Today's game is being broadcast on 560 The FAN Duluth/Superior.

1ST PERIOD

*Chris Hyk is starting in net again.

*The Lakers have had a few good possessions as the Saints were forced to stay on the ice for a couple of long shifts.

*The FAN 560 takes commercial breaks during the period, but I don't think the officials stop the game for them. I hear last night's OT winner for the Saints happened while the station was in a break...doh!

*Less than six minutes to play and still no score. No penalties either, this is a very quick period.

*Chamberlain, Whitehead and McLaughlin are together on a line for the second straight night.

*St. Scholastica just hit the post on a great scoring chance as we near intermission.

*That'll do it for the first twenty minutes, no score from the Cornerstone Community Center. Lakers outshoot the Saints 6-5 and neither team commits a penalty.

2ND PERIOD

*Reisweber takes a loose puck on the right side of the neutral zone, brings it in on the wing, angles out in front of the net and scores. He seems to have a knack for doing that in Wisconsin. 1-0 Lakers 4:15 into the period.

*Jeff Gagnon quickly tied it at 1-1 with a PPG for the Saints.

*Joe Hall rips one past Steve Bounds...2-1 Lakers and that's three goals in as many minutes.

*Make it four markers in five minutes as Trevor Geiger beats Hyk, 2-2.

*Rich Zalewski takes the ice for the Lakers and Trevor Geiger immediately scores again. Coincidence? 3-2 Saints. (Note: The announcer said Zalewski was on the ice, but the box score doesn't show his name)

*Hank Van Boxmeer rips one past Bounds for a PPG, 3-3 with 7:02 left in the middle. Six goals have been scored in 8:43! Correction: Joe Hall is credited with a redirect goal, his second marker of the afternoon.

*SCOOOORE! Tyler Lyon with a blue line blast giving the Lakers a 4-3 lead with less than four minutes remaining in the second. Correction: Matt Whitehead is credited with a redirected goal.

*This is getting to be ridiculous. St. Scholastica ties it as the puck is dragged in by an Oswego defender. 4-4.

*Saints going on a PP as Van Boxmeer is whistled for holding with just over a minute left.

*PPG for the Saints. Nine goals this period. 5-4 St. Scholastica.

*That's all for the second. Nine goals in the final 14 minutes. I feel for the radio producer, "Captain." He was unable to get the goals edited in time for the intermission recap.

3RD PERIOD

*Lakers have out-shot the Saints 17-15. Five goals on only 15 shots for St. Scholastica!

*Oswego goes on the power play early in the third. Van Boxmeer is denied twice by Bounds. Lyon put a backhanded shot just high as the Lakers continue to apply the pressure on the PP.

*You have to wonder whether or not Paul Beckwith is in uniform tonight. Last night's box score showed Tyler Laws as the backup goalie for Oswego.

*Neither team able to capitalize on a PP chance this period. We're midway through the third, still 5-4 Saints.

*Lakers going on the PP as Whitehead is able to draw a hook on one of the Saints. Less than five minutes remaining.

*Saints kill Oswego's PP, even strength hockey with less than three minutes to play.

*Less than two minutes remain and the Lakers need a goal to force OT.

*Under a minute to go and Hyk has made two big saves as the Lakers cannot clear the puck.

*Oswego never gets the puck out of their own end in the final minute and lose 5-4.
