Lozzi's Rebound Tally Tops Hamilton 2-1; Ellis Sits Again

Ryan Ellis was a spectator for the second straight game as his Oswego State teammates earned their third straight victory, 2-1 over Hamilton College tonight at the Campus Center. Junior goaltender Tim Potter stopped 25 of 26 shots en route to his third win in as many games as a Laker.

Hamilton outplayed Oswego State in the opening stanza, pouring 13 shots on net to the Lakers' seven. Potter brushed all chances aside as the teams entered the locker room in a scoreless tie after 20 minutes. His counterpart, Scott Hefferman, faced far less shots in the first (seven), but made two remarkable glove hand snags to preserve the tie.

Voclav Tomicek got the scoring started in the second, rewarding himself for winning a battle in the corner with Laker defensemen Kyle McCutcheon. The Hamilton winger took the puck from the left corner, darted straight for the net and beat a sprawling Potter at the far post to give the Conts a 1-0 edge with 15:56 left in the middle period.

Neither team could muster much offense for the remainder of the period. All told, only 13 shots found their way on net in the second. The last of those baker's dozen, a power play slapper by McCutcheon off a clean face off win from Chris Laganiere, found the twine to even the score at 1-1 just before the horn.

A little more than four minutes later, it was de ja vu all over again as a Laganiere clean face off win on the man advantage resulted in another Laker goal. The sophomore sent the puck straight back to defenseman Hank Van Boxmeer at the right point, who took a few strides toward the slot then sent in a wrist shot. Hefferman made the stop, but the puck rebounded to Mark Lozzi at the left post who buried it home for his team-leading tenth goal of the season.

That tally would stand as the game-winner while the two clubs battled for a scoreless 16:25 to end the game. Hamilton's loss was their second straight after they finished 2008 with a loss to Morrisville. The Lakers earned their 11th win in 16 games to start the season, one better than their pace at the same time last year.
