RIT (7-1-1, 5-1-1 ECAC West) scored the game’s first goal at 9:02 of the first period before Oswego freshman forward Kelly Collins (Fairport, NY) scored her first collegiate goal 1:20 late to even the score. The Tigers ended the period with a score at 13:10 to take a one goal lead and extended the lead to 3-1 in the second period on a power-play goal 16:51 before the Lakers (4-4-1, 2-4-1 ECAC West) pulled to within a goal on a score from freshman Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, ONT) with 1:02 remaining.
RIT put the game away with four goals from four different players in the opening 4:49 in the third period and followed with goals from sophomores Sarah Dagg and Kylie Mazzetta, who each scored twice in the period en route to registering hat tricks apiece for the game. The Tigers outshot the Lakers 24-1 for the period and 55-14 for the game.
Sandra Grant of stopped 12 shots in picking up the complete-game win, while Oswego junior Erin Robson (Orillia, ONT) made 46 saves in a losing effort.
Both teams meet again on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Campus Center Arena in game two of the weekend series.
