And They're Off

The 2008-09 Oswego State Athletics season kicked off Friday as the men's soccer team (0-1) dropped a 2-0 decision at tenth-ranked Rochester (1-0) in the first round of the Flower City Classic. Rochester outshot Oswego 21-3 in the contest. This marks the third time in four seasons that Bob Friske's Lakers have started the season with a loss to the Yellowjackets.

This is at least the sixth straight season Rochester has defeated Oswego. Sophomore Eric Kukura got the start in net for the Lakers and stopped five of six shots on net he faced. He suffered a knee injury in the game's 72nd minute and was replaced by junior Nick Liberati.

The green and gold return to action Sunday against St. John Fisher (0-1). The Cardinals were shut out 4-0 Friday by SUNYAC member Cortland (1-0). The Red Dragons will face #10 Rochester at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Flower City Championship.
