The Oswego State men's basketball team beat Potsdam 71-56 in a SUNY Athletic Conference quarterfinal game at the Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego Tuesday night. Junior Tommy Downing led all scorers with 22 points, including four three-pointers to go along with four steals at the defensive end.
The third-seed Lakers were able to jump out to a 36-26 halftime lead as they held six-seed Potsdam to 8-for-26 shooting in the first 20 minutes. The Bears were especially dismal from long-range, connecting on just one-of-eight from behind the arc.
Senior point guard Nick Perioli, playing with a heavily-bandaged thumb on his shooting hand, had a well-balanced game with twelve points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Sophomore Mahamoud Jabbi recorded his seventh double-double of the season with twelve points and 12 rebounds. The Lakers are 7-0 this season when Jabbi records pours in at least ten points while grabbing at least ten rebounds. The Lakers put all of their starters in double-figures as Dom White and Kyle Reuter each chipped in ten points.
Oswego State now advances to the conference semi-finals for the fourth consecutive season. They await the results of the other quarterfinal games to find out their opponent. The semi-final games and SUNYAC Championship will be hosted by top-seed Plattsburgh who beat Fredonia Tuesday night.

Upon leaving Oswego, I took the blog with me. I am a supporter of SU & Oswego State Athletics, as well as the New York Yankees, NY Giants, and NY Rangers.
