Ryan Scott Writes Himself Into Oswego State Record Books

Ryan Scott is now Oswego State's all-time leader for shutouts. The senior from Williamsville, NY blanked Geneseo 5-0 Friday at the Wilson Ice Arena. Scott made 28 saves in the victory. His teammates and coaches all came out to congratulate the school's all-time save percentage leader after the final buzzer. Scott is still chasing the SUNYAC career record for victories.

For the second game in a row, Oswego State got off to a fast start. Garren Reisweber scored his first goal since the championship-winning marker eight months ago in Superior, Wisconsin. The goal was scored only 2:27 into the game, as Reisweber was assisted by Tony DiNunzio and Mark Lozzi. C.J. Thompson notched his second goal of the season and Oswego State's second goal of the game 9:42 into the first period. That goal was unassisted.

The second period was relatively uneventful, as both Ryan Scott and Geneseo goaltender Derek Jokic played exceptionally well, stopping all shots that they each faced in the period. However, with only thirty-three seconds left in the period, C.J. Thompson hit a Geneseo player from behind, sending him through the glass and nearly into the fans. The period was stopped by the officials and both teams were sent to the locker room. The glass was replaced, the ice was cleaned and the teams came back out after an extended intermission. The teams played an uneventful thirty-three seconds, and then the horn sounded and we progressed into the third period.

The extended intermission seemed to help Oswego State as they came out of the break firing. Neil Musselwhite notched his third goal of the season only 5:37 into the period. It almost looked like an "own goal". As Musselwhite tried to pass the puck in front of the net, a Geneseo defensemen hit his stick causing the puck to bounce towards the net. Jockic tried to stop the puck by sprawling out for it, but it hit his skate and slipped into the net for a 3-0 Laker lead. The goal was unassisted and shorthanded. Jockic was pulled after the goal and was replaced by junior net minder Jeff Pasemko. Jokic left the game playing just over 45 minutes and allowing three goals with twenty eight saves.

Brendan McLaughlin scored his third goal of the season at 13:28 into the third period, a goal that was assisted by Peter Magagna and Rich Zalewski. Just thirty seconds later, Reisweber nailed his second goal of the night on an assist from Matt Whitehead for a 5-0 Oswego lead. The game got very physical after that, as there were five different penalties and numerous shoving matches in the last six minutes. Matt Whitehead and Brandon McLaughlin were each called for slashing penalties. Geneseo's Matthew Cyr and Kevin Galan were called for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Galan was also called for a simultaneous roughing penalty and left the ice early.
In my opinion, this is the best the Lakers have looked since they won the national championship in March. They passed the best they have all season, and they out skated Geneseo all night long. Numerous times tonight Oswego players skated past one, two, three Geneseo defenders and were able to put a shot on net. Ryan Scott played phenomenally, standing on his head a few times tonight to stop some shots. Oswego State's defense also played a lot better tonight. The Lakers were still able to play aggressively all night long, but they also played exceptional defense. Geneseo was only able to get a couple of decent scoring opportunities all night long. If the Lakers play like this tomorrow night, they should blow out Brockport for their third SUNYAC victory of the year.
