Lakers finish eighth at Doug Parker Invitational

The Oswego State wrestling team finished eighth in the 18-team field and freshman Cameron Mills won the 165-pound weight class at the 18th Annual Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.

Mills went 5-0 in the 165-pound bracket, winning his first two matches by fall and the next three by decision, including a 10-8 victory over Vincent Renaut of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in the finals. Mills is now 9-2 on the season.

Oswego State heavyweight Jake Taylor finished second in his bracket, suffering his first loss of the season in the finals against Glenn Geesman of MIT by 7-4 score. Taylor won his first three matches in the tournament by pinfall, and is 9-1 this season with all of his wins coming by pin.

The Lakers also had two sixth-place finishers at the tournament, James Weber at 149 pounds and Chris Payne at 141 pounds.

Oswego State's team point total of 81.5 was good for an eighth-place standing. Rhode Island College won the tournament with 142.5 points, followed by U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (113), and Centenary (111.5).
