Field Hockey Continues to Falter

The Oswego State field hockey team lost 3-2 in overtime to Houghton College Tuesday at Laker Field in Oswego, N.Y. The Highlanders were led by sophomore Ashley Hoffman’s two goals, including the game-winner in the ninth minute of overtime.

A pair of freshmen helped the Lakers force overtime. Lori Teaney scored her fourth goal of the season in the game’s 54th minute off an assist from Sara Budde to tie the score at 2-2.

Houghton junior Arryn Prince put the Highlanders up 2-1 in the 51st minute on a penalty stroke. Hoffman had tied the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute with her first goal on the day. She now has 20 goals for her career.

Oswego State sophomore Eileen O’Neill got the Lakers off to an early lead 1-0 with her second career goal in the 18th minute. Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Scharfe stopped 13 shots on the day.

Houghton has now won four of their last five games to improve their record to 6-8. Oswego State dropped their eighth decision in nine games to fall to 2-13. The Lakers return to action Thursday against Nazareth.
