The fact that five of the Lakers' losses were one-goal decisions provides hope for the 2007 season. However, the team was also shut out on seven occasions. Second-year coach Marushka Eddy lost leading scorer Jennifer Tordy to graduation as well as third-leading scorer Beth Patterson. Junior forward Kaylee Voohries will look to fill the scoring void in 2007. Along with Tordy, she led the Lakers in goals with three. Voohries took only six shots on the season.
The Ducks are coming off of an 11-8 campaign in which they set an all-time program high for wins and goals (40). They return their top eight scorers from a year ago, including Sophmore forward Courtney Geddis. Geddis led the Hawks in goals (9) and points (18).
Sept. 5 marks the home-opener at Laker Field. Elmira will come to Oswego in hopes of duplicating last season's 3-1 victory over the Lakers. 2006 NCAA quarterfinalist William Smith will then visit the Lakers on Sept. 8. Oswego State will face their second quarterfinalist in as many weeks when they visit Cortland on Sept. 19.
The Lakers will get another crack at Wells College when they travel to Aurora on Oct. 10. Oz had an offensive surge in last year's matchup with the Express, netting six goals in a shutout victory.
Circle Oct. 27 on your calendars, that is when Oz travels to RPI for a rematch of last year's classic defensive struggle. The Lakers won 1-0 on a Beth Patterson goal in the 69th minute, sending the Laker Field crowd into a frenzy.
